Raven with Vine on Display - Princeton, NJ
Raven with Vine has been included in the Annual Member Show at the Arts Council of Princeton, and is currently on display in the Taplin Gallery through January 3, 2026.
The Member Show brings together a mix of styles, mediums, and perspectives. I’m honored to have my work displayed alongside so many talented local artists whose creativity continues to energize our regional arts scene. The show is open to the public through January 3, so please visit if you’re in or near Princeton this season.
Raven with Vine is my first painted interpretation of a bird that is often mysterious, sometimes misunderstood, and endlessly admired. Ravens appear in literature and art throughout history, and have such captivating intelligence and presence. For my painting, I combined the traditional profile pose with a softer, approachable expression and rich indigo and violet textures and added a verdigris vine to offset the bird.
Living in a fairly dense area of Princeton, I generally hear ravens before I see them. Their deep, guttural calls are unmistakable. I’ve seen one going against a fox over food and a pair calling out from a communication tower, and heard others overhead in the trees during a walk. Whenever they pass through, I stop to admire them. Last fall, I discovered that I’m not alone here - there are actually a lot of crow and raven fan out there. They were my best sellers in my booth.
If you do stop by the gallery, I’d love to hear what pieces you connected with — and what spoke to you about Raven with Vine.
Thank you for stopping by - virtually or in person.
